Local Artists’ Work on Display for the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX® Theater’s Opening Weekend of “Van Gogh: Brush with Genius”

St. Augustine, Fla. (February 2, 2010) – Celebrate the life and work of Vincent van Gogh with the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX Theater’s latest film “Van Gogh: Brush with Genius.” Opening weekend activities will include a VIP event and an art walk featuring local artists Feb. 12-13. Guests can enjoy an opening night VIP event Friday, Feb. 12 with unlimited heavy hors d’voures, wine and beer at Fairways Café from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The evening will include a live demonstration by local artist Gary Garret, a member of First Coast Plein Air Painters, who will paint in the style of Van Gogh. The feature presentation “Van Gogh: Brush with Genius” will be shown at 8 p.m. VIP tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages four through 12 and may be purchased by calling (904) 940-4010. On Saturday, Feb. 13, the World Golf Hall of Fame IMAX Theater will host an outdoor art walk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The art walk will feature displays from several local artists, harp performances and a Plein-air Artist Exhibition, where guests will be able to watch artists in action as they paint landscapes of World Golf Village.  Displayed art will be available for sale. “Van Gogh: Brush with Genius” will run at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m., and 7 p.m.

“Van Gogh: Brush with Genius” leads viewers on a journey through the surprisingly short nine-year period of the artist's career during which he painted more than 900 paintings. Told from the perspectives of three main characters – Ellen, a museum researcher, Peter, a film director, and Vincent van Gogh himself – “Van Gogh” follows in the artist's footsteps, traveling from the Netherlands to Auvers-sur-Oise and passing through Arles, Saint-Rémy and Paris. From the dazzling yellow of the artist's famous cornfields to the deep blue of his famous night sky, audiences will rediscover the source of some of the most important works in art history.

Other films playing at the IMAX Theater include “Journey into Amazing Caves” and “Sharks.”  Guests can see any two general-run films for $10.
